WIEUCA ROAD BAPTIST CHURCH ANNOUNCES NEW NAME AND THE SELECTION OF GREENSTONE PROPERTIES AS MASTER DEVELOPER TO REIMAGINE CAMPUS

 

Church at Wieuca Reaffirms Long-Standing Commitment to Buckhead Community

 

ATLANTA, March 25, 2021 – Wieuca Road Baptist Church has adopted a new name – Church at Wieuca – and today announces it has retained Greenstone Properties to reimagine its campus to better serve Buckhead and the broader community for generations to come.

“After 66 years of serving the community, our commitment remains to be a long-standing neighbor and a place for spiritual growth,” said Dr. Barry Howard, lead pastor, Church at Wieuca. “After much prayer and consideration, our congregation voted to be faithful stewards of our land by using this gift God has given us to maximize our mission and further our ministry opportunities in the community for many more years to come.”

The church intends to retain half of its 12-acre site for a reimagined church campus and to redevelop the north and south parcels into a complementary, live-work-pray community. Greenstone Properties was selected as the master developer and is working with church leaders, as well as gathering input from various community and neighborhood stakeholders, to develop the master plan.

Church at Wieuca’s iconic sanctuary and steeple will serve as the spiritual center, and greenspaces and walking paths will create a connected community. The proposed new development will complement the surrounding area with probable elements to include Class AAA office, high-rise multifamily residential, single-family and other for-sale residential options. We look forward to sharing more details as they become available.”

Approximately half of the revenue generated by the property redevelopment will be invested to fund mission and ministry projects in the community and beyond. Church at Wieuca plans to expand its mission involvement in Atlanta, helping individuals and families in crisis, as it grows its partnerships with Buckhead Christian Ministries, the Atlanta Mission, City of Refuge and Wellspring Living, among other organizations.

The reimagined church campus will better serve Church at Wieuca’s 21st century ministry and include renovations to meet evolving post-pandemic needs. Right sizing the campus allows the church to continue to be faithful stewards of its resources and remain a part of the Buckhead community.

The church will honor its past by ensuring its iconic sanctuary remains as a centerpiece and welcoming landmark of the new campus. Wieuca Day School, Wieuca After School, Camp Wieuca and Claire Gibbs House will remain an integral part of the church campus and continue to serve the community and future generations.

The new name, “Church at Wieuca,” emphasizes the church’s community commitment and aligns more with its mission to be the presence of Christ in Buckhead. While it will continue to be a Baptist church guided by Baptist principles, church leaders recognize that people connect to the church because they feel a part of the community.
